For my first blog, I thought I would show everyone my fabulous cupcake making skills. A friend at work had a recipe for monkey cupcakes and she was dying to try it, but never had the chance to. When it came time for her baby shower, the baby's room is monkey themed, I jumped at the chance to make these for her. For my first try I followed the directions. I did white cake from the box (I was following directions), regular chocolate frosting, plain M&M's for the eyes, Nilla wafers and Nutter Butters that were cut in half and then sperated. White cake from the box is always bland, so I was not very impressed with them. The next time I made them, I made Devil's Food Cake cupcakes from scratch, peanut butter M&M's for the eyes, dark chocolate frosting, and after cutting the Nutter Butters in thirds, I used the ends and kept them together. The peanut butter M&M's were everyone's favorite upgrade. Since I was traveling to the location of the party, I did not assemble them completely before I got there. I put the ears on when I got to the destination because they can be rather heavy and can fall off the head. The next time I make them, I will try something like black bottom cupakes.
